The Long-Run Impacts of Mexican-American School Desegregation

We present the first quantitative analysis of impact ending de jure segregation Mexican-American school children in United States by examining effects 1947 Mendez v. Westminster court decision on long-run educational attainment for Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites California. Our identification strategy relies comparing individuals across California counties that vary their likelihood segregating birth cohorts exposure to ruling based start age. Results point a significant increase who were fully exposed desegregation.
